Okay, so it's been awhile. I moved on Thursday and then went home for the weekend. I'm back now though.
Jacob 6:
- Verse 5: Wherefore, my beloved brethren, I beseech of you in words of soberness that ye would repent, and come with full purpose of heart, and cleave unto God as he cleaveth unto you. And while his arm of mercy is extended towards you in the light of the day, harden not your hearts.
- What does it mean to "cleave unto God?"
- Cleave:
- 1. to adhere closely; stick; cling (usually followed by to ).
- 2. to remain faithful (usually followed by to ): to cleave to one's principles in spite of persecution.
- So to cleave unto God is more that following His ways. It's more than holding His hand. Cleaving is becoming one with God. What is interesting is that it says to "cleave unto God as he cleaveth unto you." This means that He is ready to accept us as soon as we allow Him in.
- Another thing that I really like about this definition is the 2nd part where it says "in spite of persecution." To me this means clinging, becoming one with God, making His will your will, no matter what the circumstances. Even if you are having a hard time seeing God's path for you.
